All Our Relations Youth Program
To celebrate the All Our Relations public art commission, the project team invited Hamilton & Area Indigenous youth to participate in a FREE, two-week program about exploring Indigenous art-making and the public art process.
Né iikaaniganna the youth program connected to the All Our Relations Public Art project which was led by Cree - Métis artist Angela DeMontigny, and Hamilton-based non-profit arts organisation Cobalt Connects, in partnership with the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre.
The All Our Relations project led by Cree/Métis artist Angela DeMontigny, created a permanent, signature public art installation for Hamilton’s Pier 8 Waterfront redevelopment that is focused on the interconnection that is the core of First Nations, Inuit and Métis worldviews and ways of knowing. Many First Nations speak to this relationship to all things as “All Our Relations”. This mindset reflects Indigenous worldview that honours the connection and relationship to all that is. Gratitude and an awareness that everything in the natural world, beings that are seen and unseen, and the universe are connected to us.
The All Our Relations art installation includes five, forty-foot tall steel structures that hold over 7000 hand-made glass beads that depict the key elements of this mindset.
