All Our Relations Youth Program
To celebrate the All Our Relations public art commission, the project team is inviting Hamilton & Area Indigenous youth to participate in a FREE, two-week program about exploring Indigenous art-making and the public art process.
PROGRAM DATES: Monday through Friday, August 1 to August 12, 2022. 9:00am to 5:00pm
PROGRAM LOCATION: 652 Parkdale North, Hamilton
Né iikaaniganna is the youth program connected to the All Our Relations Public Art project being led by Cree - Métis artist Angela DeMontigny, glass artist Paull Rodrigues and Hamilton-based non-profit arts organisation Cobalt Connects, in partnership with the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre.
The All Our Relations project is creating a signature public art piece for Hamilton’s Pier 8 Waterfront redevelopment that is focused on the interconnection that is the core of First Nations, Inuit and Métis worldviews and ways of knowing. Many First Nations speak to this relationship to all things as “All Our Relations”. This mindset reflects Indigenous worldview that honours the connection and relationship to all that is. Gratitude and an awareness that everything in the natural world, beings that are seen and unseen, and the universe are connected to us.
The All Our Relations art piece includes five, forty-foot tall structures that will be erected to hold over 7000 hand-made glass beads that depict the key elements of this mindset.
